As a young girl, the natural world, full of life and mystery was my most reliable source of comfort; one where dreams and inspiration merged. A longing to connect with nature in all her myriad manifestations continued to grow and finally blossomed when I discovered painting.
Nature had much to teach me and I became ready to listen with all my senses: Feeling the sunshine, and the wind; observing the movement of the leaves in a gentle breeze; smelling the bread backing in the alleyways of my Grandmother's village were simple pleasures that became full of mystery. My closeness to nature instlled in me a deep longing to capture and express her essence through my art.
Pleinair paintings of meadows, waterfalls, village scenes and oceans satisfied these longings. Allowing myself to be the artistic channel for expression has formed the foundation of my life. My fascination with the world of nature lead me to another one- the world of color. Color is the strongest element in the my artistic expression and represents a power deep within me.
Oil has been my most reliable medium. It's rich impasto allows me to create the intensity I want. Bold brush strokes capture the liveliness and motion of nature itself. My evolution from Expressionsim to Abstract Expressionism has introduced a new medium to my work. I feel inspired in news ways by the luminosity and transparency of this medium which creates a depth new to my experience.
Major artistic influences range from early Modernists; Cezanne, Degas, Monet and Post-Impressionists; Van Gogh, Gaugin to German Expressionists; Kirchner, Rotluff, Nolde and more recently, De Kooning, Kandinsky, and Joan Mitchell.
